What you can upgrade are the power-ups, though, to increase either the duration of time that they last, the speed that they give you, or the slowdown that you deal to other players. You can’t upgrade individual buggies or characters, but you can unlock new ones from tikis, mail, by spending gems, and more. Hit the question marks to pick up standard items, hit the exclamation marks to pick up better items, or hit the double question blocks to fill up both of the item slots. Various forms of rockets and missiles either home in on the enemy or fire in a straight line, plus, you can get speed boosts and shields.
